چکیده

nary artery disease; 37 did not. Abnormal graphic studies were found in 42 patients with coronary artery disease and three patients with normal coronary arteriograms. These abnormalities correlated well with the presence of elevated left ventricular enddiastolic pressure. Third heart sounds were found less frequently than fourth heart sounds and/or abnormal apexcardiographic a waves, but when present were usually associated with a depressed cardiac index. Diagnostically, over 90% of all patients with chest pain who exhibited graphic abnormalities had significant coronary atherosclerosis. Normal graphic studies did not rule out coronary artery disease, but did indicate adequate left ventricular function since only 5% of patients with normal graphic studies had elevated left ventricular end-diastolic pressure combined with a low cardiac index.

Mechanical correlates of the third heart sound.

In seven chronically instrumented conscious dogs, micromanometers measured left ventricular pressure, and ultrasonic dimension transducers measured left ventricular minor-axis diameter; the latter recording was filtered to examine data between 20 and 100 Hz. Acceptable external heart sounds were recorded with a phonocardiographic microphone in four of the seven dogs. With each dog sedated, intu...

Diastolic properties of the left ventricle in normal adults and in patients with third heart sounds.

To explore the pathogenesis of the third heart sound (S3), left ventricular hemodynamics in early diastole were studied during catheterization in normal adults without S3S (group I, n = 12) and in cardiac patients with S3S as the result of severe mitral regurgitation (group II, n = 11), dilated cardiomyopathy (group III, n = 24) or restricted left ventricular filling (group IV, n = 4). The heig...

Diastolic time – frequency relation in the stress echo lab: filling timing and flow at different heart rates

UNLABELLED A cutaneous force-frequency relation recording system based on first heart sound amplitude vibrations has been recently validated. Second heart sound can be simultaneously recorded in order to quantify both systole and diastole duration. AIMS 1- To assess the feasibility and extra-value of operator-independent, force sensor-based, diastolic time recording during stress. METHODS W...

Origin of the third heart sound.

We report noninvasive and invasive studies designed to clarify the mechanism of the third heart sound (S3) in humans. The noninvasive observations were made using a miniature accelerometer attached to the skin surface at the cardiac apex. In subjects with no S3, the tracings were either flat or showed very low undulations throughout diastole. Those with an S3, however, demonstrated a distinct r...
